Playa Hermosa

Playa Hermosa is one of Costa Rica’s top surfing destinations, known for consistent waves that can reach impressive heights, especially during the rainy season (May to November). The beach regularly hosts surfing competitions, including international events like the ISA World Surfing Games.

Besides its waves, Playa Hermosa has a rich natural landscape with dark volcanic sands and lush vegetation along the shore. The area is part of the Playa Hermosa-Punta Mala Wildlife Refuge, a protected area for nesting sea turtles, especially during nesting season (July to December). You may also spot scarlet macaws, iguanas, and, if you’re lucky, some of the area’s small monkeys.
